Hobbit Theme Park Rumor Ė Universal Studios Florida

Updated: 8 Jan 2013 05:50:33 AM

From the first moment that Universal Studios opened up the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, it fast became one of the most popular attractions that the theme park has to offer guests.

Fueled by the popularity of this attraction and the popularity of Tolkienís Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books, and of course the recent movie releases, rumors are now circulating that Universal Studios has entered into talks with the Tolkien estate about the potential for creating and opening up a Middle Earth themed section of their park.

Unconfirmed

The rumors are as of yet unconfirmed, but they state that the topic has been raised with the Tolkien estate and that the estateís representatives have also reached out to JK Rowling to find out how she views the impact of the theme park on her overall brand.

While this is definitely still a rumor, contracts have not been signed, and ground has not been broken, a Middle Earth section of the park could prove to be a huge draw for Universal Studios.

Tolkienís books are a vast resource of inspiration for rides and other attractions that could include trips into mines, encounters with dragons, exploring the woods with the Hobbits, and of course the added attraction of restaurants serving up Hobbit-styled meals.

With Walt Disney World slated to open up several next expansions over the next few months and years, it could only prove to be in Universalís best interests to bring a little bit of Middle Earth to Orlando.
