Benefits of Visiting Walt Disney World During Off Season

Updated: 26 Aug 2013 12:47:27 PM

Because of the popularity of the parks all over the world, there aren't any times that are actually slow at Walt Disney World, but from mid-January through March, mid-September through the week before Thanksgiving, and May before Memorial Day tend to be less crowded times at the parks.

Also, the weekends are the busiest times of the week, as many Florida residents take advantage of time in the parks.

If you are able to make a visit to Orlando during these off-peak times, here is a list of the top ten tips for visiting the parks:

Hotel Discounts

Many hotels will compete for guests during these times of year.

Be sure to ask about special discounts or package deals when researching where to stay.

Disney hotels are also often discounted at these times.

Free Dining Plans

If you are staying at a Disney resort and meet criteria for the type of resort and number of nights, you may be eligible for a free dining plan, saving you hundreds of dollars.

The off-season times at Disney are also some of the coolest temperatures of the year.

Be sure to pack layers and rain gear.

Hours, Restaurants, Rides and Shows

Disney lists updated information on their website every day, or check at guest services for show times when you enter the park.

Plan your dinners later - or earlier!

Less people means greater flexibility for mealtimes.

Many of the character dining spots will still recommend reservations, but you will be able to be choosier with your preferred times.

You will be busier!

Because of lesser wait times, you will be able to ride even more of the popular attractions at the theme parks.

Fuel up with snacks and take advantage of the park-hopper pass, which enables you to move from park to park throughout the day.

Get more sleep!

During the winter months, it will get dark earlier, allowing for earlier fireworks shows.

Ask for upgrades at hotels.

The answer may be no, but it is worth a try when checking in!

Be aware some of the rides may be closed for maintenance.

To avoid disappointment at the ride site, check ahead for ride closures.

One off-peak time that offers a special holiday bonus is the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The park is less busy, but Christmas decorations remain up until after the holidays.
