Updated: 27 May 2013 05:21:25 AM
The Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and ESSENCE Magazine is a unique opportunity for US high school students who demonstrate intellectual curiosity and strong leadership skills.
Designed to help inspire and empower the future leaders of tomorrow, the Dreamers Academy is an intensive, four-day program in one of the most exciting and creative classrooms in the world - Walt Disney World.
Participants and a parent or guardian will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the Walt Disney World Resort where students will engage in personal and professional workshops in the hopes of helping them to discover how best to make their dreams come true.
The program was kick-started in 2008 by radio personality Steve Harvey and has since benefitted over 500 students.
Harvey has stated that Disney's Dreamers Academy "is about inspiring our young people who oftentimes don't have the chance to be exposed to a variety of job skills and job opportunities and meet with people in the fields they're interested in.
We want to give our young achievers the tools to become overachievers -- to make their dreams a reality."
Applying to the program is highly competitive as the academy is limited to only 100 participants per year.
Strong candidates should display creativity, courage, passion, positivity, and persistence to take advantage of opportunities.
Students may nominate themselves or be nominated by a teacher, parent, guardian, church or social organization.
The Disney Dreamers Academy will be acceptingapplications for the 2014 program beginning July 2 through October 31, 2013.
Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 19, live in the United States and be enrolled in high school grades 9-12.
